The Importance of Fire Risk Assessments

A fire risk assessment is a mandatory undertaking that need to be carried out in all work places and also in areas that are accessible to the general public. If you fail to conform to these regulations, it may lead to serious penalties and possibly even imprisonment. The fire assessment is a detailed one and it must be carried out by an appointed person such as a fire warden. This responsible person needs to pursue such a task in the first instance and then re-evaluate it periodically.

If your company has more than five staff members, the risk assessment details will need to be recorded in writing and also kept some place safe. These assessments can be created by anyone, as long as they include the relevant fire safety advice documents to hand. If you are not comfortable with undertaking this task, a professional fire risk assessments company will be able to provide a competent person to take over these duties.

What is a Fire Risk Assessment?

A fire risk assessment is a scheduled and methodical investigation of your premises, and it is performed in order to ascertain the fire risks and safety levels of your company’s surroundings. The elements of the assessment are usually carried out so that you can highlight the likelihood of a fire starting and also the harm that it may cause in certain situations to those in and around the area. The most important aims of this assessment are to:

Identify
–Any potential fire hazards and risks
Reduce
– Reduce those risks to a level that is as low as possible
Evaluate
– Evaluate which precautions need to be put in place to ensure the safety of the people in and around the premises.
The responsibility of a fire risk assessment will normally be placed upon one designated individual, and this will usually be an employer or someone who has control over the premises.

He person who is responsible will need to focus entirely on the safety of all the relevant people and will also need to pay particular attention to those who are at an increased risk. This person will also need to have the training and knowledge required to implement these measures appropriately and correctly.
